LAYTON — A driver narrowly escaped getting hit by a train after their car was rear-ended and pushed onto train tracks in Layton Tuesday.
Around 2:45 p.m., a car was stopped at a FrontRunner crossing on Hill Field Road when it was rear-ended, pushing the vehicle onto the train tracks, Utah Transit Authority spokesman Gavin Gustafson said. The driver was unable to reverse as the car behind it was in the way, but the driver was able to exit the vehicle before the train collided with the car.
There were no injuries on the train or in either car, Layton police said. The vehicle on the tracks suffered extensive damage and the crossing arms and lights were broken in the crash.
The train was shut down while crews cleaned up. UTA said a bus bridge was in place between Layton and Clearfield, and delays should be expected for southbound trains from Clearfield to North Temple in Salt Lake City.
