SANTA CLARA, Washington County — A body was discovered Wednesday near a hiking trail south of Santa Clara, law enforcement said.

The body of the currently unidentified person was discovered shortly after 1 p.m. by a mountain biker who was riding on the Stucki Springs Trail, according to Ryan Moore, a spokesman for Santa Clara-Ivins Fire and Rescue.

Moore said the mountain biker called 911 for help and due to the remote location of the body, Santa Clara-Ivins Fire and Rescue launched a Life Flight helicopter to search the area.

Once emergency responders arrived, they declared the person dead, Moore said. The incident, including the cause of death, is currently being investigated by the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Moore told St. George News the deceased person was a man. No other information regarding his identity or age was immediately available.
