ST. GEORGE — One woman is in custody on suspicion of obstruction of justice following the arrest of another person wanted on a $100,000 warrant issued out of Washington County.

On Dec. 4, Neri Carolina Garcia, 37, of St. George was arrested at the St. George Police Department following an interview with investigators regarding a fugitive wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service. She was booked into jail on suspicion of obstruction of justice.

Investigators allege that Garcia obstructed efforts in the search and arrest of 35-year-old Nicholas Hughes, who was wanted on three first-degree felony charges — two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and one count of object rape of a child, according to charging documents filed in support of the arrest.

Hughes was charged on Nov. 22 following an investigation that was opened in October involving a report alleging the sexual abuse of a minor who was under the age of 13 at the time. According to the report, the child was reportedly molested multiple times over the course of several months.
