MAGNA — A semitruck driver is dead after crashing Thursday on I-80 near the Great Saltair.

The crash happened about 10:40 a.m. The driver was identified Friday as Jason Panter, 50, of Taylorsville.

"There's a slight curve right there and he did not navigate that curve, went off and hit the barrier and then he overturned," Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden said. "It was a semi hauling double trailers loaded with sand and the semi did catch on fire."

Panter was unable to exit the cab and died in the crash.

Eastbound I-80 was closed for several hours after the crash.
