SPANISH FORK — One of two teenage girls in Spanish Fork who was hit by a vehicle earlier this month has been released from the hospital.
The crash occurred on May 18 when two girls "darted out" in front of traffic and were hit by a Kia Soul near 2300 E. Canyon Road. Spanish Fork Police Lt. Cory Slaymaker said the girls were attempting to cross from south to north.
Both girls, identified by their families by just their first names, 12-year-old Olivia and 13-year-old Reagan, sustained critical injuries in the crash and were flown to Primary Children's Hospital.
Olivia was released from the hospital and is resting at home, Slaymaker said Tuesday. Reagan remains in a medical-induced coma.
Family members said the girls are best friends and were playing on a trampoline when they decided to walk to Walmart and get a snack.
Spanish Fork residents have expressed their concerns about the safety of the intersection where the girls were hit and are urging public officials to improve safety there.
