HERRIMAN — Olympus and Park City have traded girls lacrosse state titles going back to 2021. The Titans earned the honors this year with a 9-6 win at Zions Banks Stadium after a 12-8 loss to the Miners a year ago.
"It's the most competitive game, which makes it the most fun," senior captain Hannah Nelson said of the Park City matchup. "So we're always looking forward to it."
The Titans went down 3-1 early after barely escaping the semifinals against Brighton with a 12-11 win, but head coach Zana Spratling said it "didn't faze them."
"When we won two years ago, with basically the same team that I have now, we were down 0-5 to begin with," Spratling said. "And then we went into the second half tied 5-5 and we were the underdogs. So the deficit doesn't bother us."
Olympus took a 4-3 lead on a goal from junior Masami Goodick with 3:46 left in second quarter and held Park City to its lowest scoring output of the season to secure the win.
When asked what it will take to break the cycle and repeat as champions next year, Spratling said: "I don't know. Just gonna enjoy this today and we'll figure it out next time."
The 6A title game between Fremont and Mountain Ridge is up next at 1 p.m. MDT at Zions Banks Stadium.
