SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police investigating a shooting on Sunday located a gun and some blood, but have been unable to locate a victim.

The shooting was reported about 3:10 p.m. near 200 East and Kensington Avenue (1500 South). When officers arrived, they found a small amount of blood on the ground but could not find anyone who had been shot, according to a statement from Salt Lake police.

However, a nearby resident reported finding a gun on her property near 1450 S. Roberta Street (240 East). Officers recovered the weapon and sent it to a crime lab for analysis, the statement said.

Police said they believe the shooting may have stemmed from a drug deal.

"As the on-scene investigation concluded, officers received information from a person claiming to be with the injured party. The individual making the report described the injury as a 'graze wound,' indicated that medical attention was not required, and declined to provide further details about themselves or the injured person," police said in the statement.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call police at 801-799-3000.
