HELPER, Carbon County — A 6-year-old died in a crash involving a semitruck along U.S. 6 on Sunday.

About 5 a.m., emergency responders were dispatched to a crash outside of Helper on U.S. 6. A pickup towing an empty flatbed trailer was headed west when it drifted into the eastbound lane and was hit by a semitruck, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Andy Battenfield.

The 6-year-old was in a car seat behind the front passenger seat and died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, said Battenfield. Both drivers were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed in both directions for the ongoing investigation.
