TAYLORSVILLE — A man was shot and killed by officers on Sunday in Taylorsville, police confirmed.

The shooting happened after police showed up at a home, 3954 W. 5820 South, around noon to discuss a domestic violence case. Police said when they arrived at the home, they found a man in the garage. Officers were speaking with him when the situation escalated, Taylorsville police said.

"They were conversing with him for a little while about the case. At some point during the investigation, the suspect produced a weapon and there were officers that discharged their firearm," said Taylorsville Police Sgt. Aaron Cheshire.

Police have not said what type of weapon the man produced. They have also not released information on how many officers fired their weapons or how many shots were fired.

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured.

The Unified Police Department Critical Incident Team is investigating, and the area will be shut down for several more hours.
