WEST VALLEY CITY — Three people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash in West Valley City Friday night.
West Valley City police said the collision involved three vehicles and occurred near 3500 South on Mountain View Corridor about 8:30 p.m.
Police said a car headed west on 3500 South ran a red light and T-boned a car driving south on Mountain View Corridor. The first car then spun and hit a third car waiting at the red light, Lt. Robert Brinton said.
The driver and front passenger of one of the vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene, and a back-seat passenger from the same car died later at the hospital, police said.
It was not immediately clear whether the victims were in the vehicle that was T-boned, or the other vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle was transported to a hospital, where she had been stabilized, Brinton said. Her condition was not released. Two other people in the final car were treated by medical crews on scene.
Mountain View Corridor is shut down from 2100 South to 4100 South and is anticipated to stay closed for several hours, police said. The incident is still under investigation, Brinton said.
Brinton said the area has seen several car crashes similar to Friday's.
"We are seeing this quite frequent. I urge people, as they're going through these big intersections on Mountain View and the speeds are highway speeds, to please look at the stoplights. Pay attention as you're passing through these," he said. "Look right, look left. Even if you have a green light. Just be cautious."
