MAGNA — Two Honduran nationals were arrested Thursday after members of the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force reported finding a large amount of drugs in their home.
The task force, which routinely follows up on investigations that lead them outside Utah County, served a search warrant Thursday at a residence at 3090 S. 8900 West in Magna.
As officers were about to serve the warrant, Jorge Perez-Ceballos, 30, was seen trying to escape by going out a bedroom window, according to a police booking affidavit.
"Inside the residence, Jorge was found to be in possession of an assault rifle, approximately 50,000 fentanyl pills, and approximately $20,000 in cash, which is believed to be proceeds of drug sales," the affidavit states.
After Perez-Ceballos was arrested for investigation of two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute, officers served a second search warrant at his home in West Valley City, at 5690 Pelican Ridge Lane, where "detectives located an additional $23,000 in cash."
While detectives were at the Magna house, Olma Suazo-Barelo, 24, arrived at the home. He was found to be carrying a gun and large quantities of cash, a second police booking affidavit says. Suazo-Barelo was also arrested for investigation of drug distribution with intent to distribute.
Police say both men are in the United States illegally from Honduras. They also note that 50,000 fentanyl pills weighs approximately 11 pounds.
