BOUNTIFUL — Police identified a West Bountiful man who was shot and killed in Bountiful Thursday morning.
Bountiful Police Lt. Andrew Smith said officers received reports of several gunshots being fired around 1 a.m. in the area of 1950 S. Bonneview Drive.
Officers arrived and found Uatisone Kelemete, 20, of West Bountiful, with a gunshot wound in his abdomen. He was unresponsive and was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.
Eighteen bullet casings were found at the scene and Smith said officers were processing multiple scenes. Police believe all 18 casings were fired at Kelemete, but only one round hit him.
There is no immediate danger to the community, according to police, and investigators are following some leads. No one had been taken into custody, but police said Thursday evening a person of interest was identified in the case.
The Pierattini family told KSL-TV they were woken up by gunshots including one bullet that went through their window and a couple of walls. Corina Pierattini said her son saw people outside their house and a man holding his side while running up the street.
"I'm just grateful it didn't hurt anybody I love," Pierattini said.
Smith said Kelemete and the suspects are not from the neighborhood where the shooting occurred.
"It's right in front of our door. And so it is, it's disturbing to have that kind of activity going on," resident April Weeks said.
The situation remains an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call dispatch at 801-298-6000.
