OREM — Every year since she was a freshman, Brooklyn Pace's sweet championship on the mat was always accompanied by the bitter taste of defeat as her Copper Hills wrestling team finished behind three-time state champion Westlake.

Not Thursday night, though.

The senior 125-pounder wrapped up her historic career with a fourth straight individual title, then paced the Grizzlies to their first 6A girls wrestling title in school history at the UCCU Center in Orem.

"Each year has been a little bit different for me, working on different things mentally and physically to get better," said Pace, who improved to 35-0 with a 3-minute, 59-second pin of Fremont's Brooke Deeter. "But this season was a perfect season, being able to wrap it all up with a nice little bow. I wasn't nervous at all tonight; I was just feeling super grateful."

Copper Hills piled up 183.5 points to Mountain Ridge's 172 as the two Salt Lake Valley rivals dueled into the championship finals.

But Pace and teammate Kimberlynn Fowers (140) each won an individual title to help the Grizzlies pull away with 195.5 points and the program's first team title, snapping Westlake's run of three consecutive 6A championships.

"I love the girls on Westlake's team; we travel together to all the national tournaments," said Pace, who has visits scheduled to Grand Valley State and Hastings College after folkstyle wrestling nationals. "But it did sting a little every year when all my (club) teammates were taking first as a team, and I was stuck in second. So this year, I'm so happy to share the victory with my whole team. We've worked so hard this year."

Mountain Ridge finished second with 172 points, followed by Corner Canyon (165), Syracuse (162) and Westlake (158.5).

Westlake's Celeste DeToles joined Pace as a four-time state champion in 6A, finishing off Davis' Jessica Mangelson in 5:54. Thunder teammate Keilikki nau Rarick won her third title with a 1:58 fall over Mountain Ridge's Hannah Whitlock at 235 pounds.

Davis junior Kristina Davis won her third state title at 100 pounds, running her undefeated record to 34-0 with a 3:22 pin over Fremont's Kinlee Brandley.
