NEPHI — One person has died after a weekend crash that injured five, including a Utah Highway Patrol trooper, when a car collided with a UHP patrol car Saturday.
The trooper was sitting in his car along the inside shoulder of I-15 near Nephi on Saturday about 12:45 p.m. when a car lost control and collided with the back of the trooper's vehicle, the Utah Department of Public Safety said in a press release.
Four occupants were in the car; each was transported to a hospital in varying conditions. The driver and the front passenger were reported to be in critical condition on Saturday, according to the department.
On Monday, UHP's Sgt. Cameron Roden said the front passenger in the car had died. Additional information, including the person's identity, has not been released.
The UHP trooper was also taken to the hospital to be evaluated and then released.
The Juab County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash along with Utah County's Major Crash Investigation Team.
