BLUFFDALE — A man who allegedly needed medical assistance was shot by police in Bluffdale on Wednesday and died a short time later after police say he pointed a gun at first responders.
Bluffdale fire and police crews responded to an undisclosed "medical call" about 8:30 a.m. at 14941 S. Castle Valley Drive (3250 West).
The patient, a 44-year-old man, was in a basement bedroom.
"Upon making contact in the basement with the man, the man suddenly pointed a firearm at the fire department personnel and the police officers. Shots were fired and the suspect was hit. Fire department paramedics immediately rendered emergency care to the man and he was shortly thereafter transported to the Riverton Hospital Emergency Room where he was later declared deceased. None of the police officers or fire department firefighters or paramedics were injured," Saratoga Spring police said in a prepared statement. Saratoga Springs also handles police calls in Bluffdale.
