MANTUA, Box Elder — Two snowmobilers were rescued Friday morning after falling through the ice at Mantua Reservoir.
About 10:40 a.m., the Box Elder Communication Center received an emergency call for two snowmobilers who had fallen through the ice at the reservoir. Brigham City firefighters responded to the scene, located the snowmobilers and removed them from the ice, a press release from Brigham City police said.
The snowmobilers were identified as Todd Hansen, of Brigham City, and Hunter Trowbridge, of Logan. Brigham City police detective Crystal Beck said the two men were able to get out of the water after the ice broke and Trowbridge called 911.
The snowmobilers were treated at a Brigham City hospital for minor injuries including cold exposure.
Brigham City police, Box Elder County deputies, Mantua firefighters and Box Elder search and rescue also responded to the accident. Brigham City Public Works assisted the rescue operation by giving the emergency crews access to the east side of the reservoir.
Police asked the public to avoid the east area of the reservoir where the rescue occurred as crews finish the rescue operation and gather property off of the reservoir.
Beck said the Brigham City firefighters train for cold weather rescues and had all the proper equipment to help the snowmobilers before the incident could turn critical.
