HEBER CITY — A Farmington man was killed Sunday night when his snowmobile hit a semitruck while attempting to cross U.S. 40 near Strawberry Reservoir.
Christopher P. Brown, 44, was with a group of three other snowmobilers in the Chicken Creek parking area about 8:40 p.m. when they attempted to cross U.S. 40 to recover a snowmobile that was having mechanical issues, according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol.
"As they attempted to cross ... from the parking lot, a double tank crude hauler semi was traveling eastbound in the area. The snowmobile and driver made contact with the pup trailer," troopers said.
Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.
The highway patrol says part of its investigation will be looking into reports that Brown was trying to accelerate quickly across the road, but his snowmobile was not getting enough traction.
