SALT LAKE CITY — Two seniors make this week's KSL.com Clean Simple Eats high school hoops players of the week as their respective teams fight for relevance in two of the top regions in the state.

Corner Canyon's Elli Mortensen became the Lady Chargers' all-time leading scorer this week with 1,194 career points early in her senior season. She is also second in the state in scoring at 23 points per game as the Chargers sit at 6-3 in a Region 2 group led by the undefeated Copper Hills.

"This season has been awesome. Our team has battled with some good teams," Mortensen said. "We have goals to compete for the region title and advance further in the state tournament. I'm feeling good about how hard all of our girls are willing to work and push each other every day."

The team is currently in Anaheim, California, participating in the SoCal Swish Tournament, with one more game against Eastside Catholic Wednesday before returning to Utah to take on Ridgeline on Jan. 5 after the holiday break. Region play begins Jan. 11 against Riverton.

Senior guard Dane Housley helped the Skyridge boys team enter the brief Christmas break in the win column with a 62-41 victory at Kearns Tuesday. He had 12 points to record his fourth double-digit scoring outing this year and leads the Falcons in assists this season.

"We haven't had as many wins as we want right now, but I feel like as the season goes on we're gonna be all right," Housley said after the Kearns win. "We're gonna keep winning games, and after this win tonight we're just going to keep rolling."

Skyridge travels to La Verne, California, after Christmas to play in the Damien Classic starting on Dec. 26 against Serra. The Falcons begin the gauntlet of Region 3 play on Jan. 12 at Westlake.

"We have a tough region, but I feel like we could play really good against them, and it's gonna be fun," Housley said.
