MEADOW, Millard County — A man accused of shooting an acquaintance in Millard County over the weekend — who allegedly was trying to help the suspected gunman — has been arrested for investigation of attempted murder.
Zachary Joe Pikyavit, 31, was booked into the Millard County Jail on Sunday after turning himself in.
The investigation began Saturday when a man was taken to Fillmore Community Hospital with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. A woman told police that she was in a car with Pikyavit and the victim in the Meadow area when "Zachary became upset so they let him out of the vehicle," according to a police booking affidavit.
"The witness said the victim exited the vehicle to comfort Zachary. The witness said Zachary pulled out a .22 Magnum handgun and fired several shots at the victim. The witness said the victim was struck in the abdomen by one of the shots," the affidavit states.
The victim, whose name and age have not been released, was flown by medical helicopter to another hospital where he underwent surgery. Pikyavit walked away after the shooting, prompting a warning by the Millard County Sheriff's Office for residents to be on the lookout for Pikyavit, who deputies said was armed and dangerous.
On Sunday, Pikyavit turned himself in.
"During an interview with Zachary he said he fired two warning shots into the air and one shot at the victim. Zachary said he heard the victim say he was not hit by the first two shots. Zachary said he then fired a third shot at the victim," according to the affidavit.
