SALT LAKE CITY — Bowen Mauss carded five birdies and an eagle to finish with a two-day total of 7-under-par 135 to claim medalist honors Tuesday and to lead Corner Canyon to the 6A boys golf state title at Old Mill.

Mauss held off Lone Peak rising star Kihei Akina by two strokes for the individual honor. Teammate Krew Labrum finished fourth at 1-under 141 as the Chargers cruised to the team title by nine strokes over the runner-up Knights.

It's the first team title for Corner Canyon, but the second individual title in four years the Chargers in Mauss, a junior who also carded 135 at TalonsCove in last year's state meet. That number ranks tied for the eighth-best individual score in a 36-hole state tournament final in the history of the Utah High School Activities Association, which sanctioned boys golf in 1948.

Riverton's Jaxon Erickson finished third, followed by Labrum and Herriman's Ian Miyasaki to round out the top five.

Bonneville's Bunn medals via playoff as Olympus holds off rival Skyline for 5A title

Bonneville's Parker Bunn held off Olympus' Will Pederson on the first hole of a playoff, clinching medalist honors at the 5A state meet at Fox Hollow golf club in American Fork.

Bunn hooked his tee shot toward a water hazard on the 487-yard, par-5 ninth hole of the playoff, while Pedersen ripped a tight shot down the middle of the fairway, he told the Standard-Examiner.

But at the last second, Bunn's shot caught a rock and bounced back into the fairway before he made an eight-foot birdie putt to clinch medalist honors.

"I couldn't believe how lucky I was," Bunn said.

Pedersen carded five birdies and an eagle to match Bunn with a two-day total of 7-under 137, finished second to lead Olympus, which ended Skyline's run of five-straight team titles with the Titans' first since 2017.

Olympus teammate Austin Shelley finished fourth at 2-under 142 to help cement the win.
