FARMINGTON — A Clinton man has been sentenced to 210 days in jail after he was found in possession of child sex abuse material.
Eric Allan Chaitman, 57, pleaded guilty Aug. 10 to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony, as part of a plea deal.
He was sentenced Thursday in 2nd District Court to serve 210 days in the Davis County Jail, but he was granted credit for 156 days already served, meaning he had 54 additional days in jail.
In January, a South Jordan police detective and the Utah attorney general's Internet Crimes Against Children task force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tip showed a computer user with six files containing child sexual abuse material.
Police sent warrants to Google, Lumen Technologies and Comcast Communications and traced the user back to Chaitman, according to a police booking affidavit.
Eleven more videos of child pornography were subsequently found, the affidavit states.
"Chaitman is a substantial danger to other persons in the community, specifically to children under the age of 18 years," the affidavit states. "It is also likely that Chaitman was distributing that (child sexual abuse material) to others, further victimizing those children."
Chaitman was originally charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony. In exchange for his guilty pleas, prosecutors dismissed eight of those counts.
