AROUND THE SHIELD — The Kansas City Chiefs dominated the Chicago Bears 41-10 Sunday, but the internet was more focused on the potential love story brewing in the stands at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Sitting in a family suite next to Donna Kelce — the acclaimed mother of Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce and Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce — was Taylor Swift, the 12-time Grammy Award winner and multi platinum recording artist with a fanbase that rivals (or exceeds) any NFL team in the country.

But Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, the former BYU offensive lineman and graduate assistant, had perhaps the best quip about the moment captured by photographers and video broadcasters around the world.

"I set them up," the beloved Kansas City coach nicknamed "Big Red" joked, deadpanning with local reporters that he "met her before."

As rumors about a potential relationship between Swift and Kelce swirled, the music legend apparently accepted the Kelce family's invitation to watch a game at Arrowhead Stadium with them. She was later seen leaving the stadium with Travis Kelce, though neither side has confirmed any relationship.

Certainly for Kelce, it would be among his wildest dreams after the 33-year-old tight end who was born in Swift's titular 1989 reportedly tried to slip his phone number to the artist on a friendship bracelet he made for Swift during one of her Eras tour concerts.

"I threw the ball in her court and told her, 'I've seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead. You might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one's a little more lit,'" Kelce told ESPN last week.

Kelce caught a game-high seven passes for 69 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown from Patrick Mahomes that the quarterback admitted made him nervous.

"I heard she was in the house," Mahomes told FOX Sports' Erin Andrews. "I felt a little bit of pressure, and so I knew I had to get it to Trav. Of course, it's on a route where Trav does his own thing. … I think he wanted to get in the end zone just as much as all the Swifties wanted him to.

"She's a pop star, tremendous at everything she does," Mahomes later added with local reporters. "I haven't got to meet her, but I guess if she ends up being with Travis, then I'll probably get to meet her at some point. Seems like a good person, and hopefully I get to meet her one day."

Here are a few local standouts from Week 3 of the 2023 NFL regular season:

  • Former Utah kicker and Utah Valley men's soccer standout Matt Gay became the first kicker in NFL history to convert four field goals of 50 yards or longer in a single game, including a 53-yard conversion in overtime that led the Colts to a 22-19 road victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Gay was "really just in that blackout mode where I wasn't thinking too much," he told ESPN.
  • Former Utah running back Zack Moss ran for a career-high 122 yards and caught a 17-yard touchdown pass in the Colts' win.
  • Former Utah State quarterback Jordan Love threw for 259 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 39 yards and a score, including the game-winner on an 8-yard touchdown pass to Romeo Doubs to rally the Green Bay Packers to an 18-17 win over the New Orleans Saints.
  • Former Weber State standout Rashid Shaheed erupted for a 76-yard punt return touchdown to help the Saints jump out to a 17-0 lead before the Packers' rally.
  • Former BYU running back Chris Brooks ran for 66 yards on nine carries in his offensive debut for the Miami Dolphins, whose 70-20 win over the Denver Broncos was 2 points shy of an NFL scoring record set in 1966.
  • Former Utah receiver and Timpview High quarterback Britain Covey returned a punt 52 yards to set up a scoring drive as the Philadelphia Eagles improved to 3-0 in back-to-back seasons for the first time in three decades with a 25-11 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
