WEST VALLEY CITY — A 15-year-old boy from Granger High School is in critical condition after being hit by a car.
The incident happened Tuesday near 3450 West and 3500 South just before noon. Police say the boy was not in a crosswalk when he was hit, but they believe he may have darted into the street from behind vehicles, leaving the driver of the SUV very little time to react.
The boy was most likely on his lunch break when he was hit.
Although the accident happened in front of West Lake Junior High, because Granger High School is so close, the Granite School District officer quickly arrived on scene and rendered aid.
"The student was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating," West Valley police stated in a tweet.
Police said the boy received trauma to the head and internal injuries.
The driver was distraught all afternoon, according to a KSL-TV reporter at the scene. Police said it is unlikely the driver will be cited for what happened because he was driving the speed limit and the area was not a crosswalk.
