MONTICELLO — One person died in a rollover crash eight miles north of Monticello in San Juan County on Friday morning.

The Utah Department of Public Safety said the crash occurred on state Route 191. A 2017 Dodge Ram truck was heading north when it went off the left side of the roadway, traveling through a dirt lot off the west side of the road into boulders and cedar trees, a news release from the agency said.

The truck rolled, ejecting the sole occupant before coming to rest on its roof. The public safety department said the driver died on the scene.

The time of the crash is unknown, but a semitruck driver spotted the crash at 9:45 a.m., according to the release. The incident is being investigated and speed and alcohol were potential contributors, the department said.
