MONTICELLO — Two people were killed following a head-on crash on state Route 191 early Thursday.
A Ford Taurus was traveling north on state Route 191 a few miles north of Monticello and just south of the Needles Overlook exit around 12:47 a.m. At the same time, a Nissan Sentra was southbound in the same area.
One of the vehicles crossed over the center line and collided head-on with the other, the Utah Highway Patrol said, after which a Penske commercial vehicle struck the Sentra.
The drivers and only occupants of the Taurus and Sentra, an 83-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman, respectively, were both killed, UHP said.
The driver of the Penske truck was not injured.
Investigators have not released the identities of the two victims and are still trying to determine what caused the crash.
The road was closed in both directions for about three hours.
