OGDEN — Firefighters battled a blaze in Ogden Friday that displaced eight people and killed four dogs.
Crews received a report of a structure fire on the 500 block of 6th Street at around 11:17 a.m., according to a news release from the Ogden Fire Department. When crews arrived on the scene, they found a two-story home with smoke and flames coming out of the roof.
The release said a neighbor saw the flames and helped two teenage boys escape the house. Firefighters searched the home to ensure no other people were inside and were able to rescue a dog, but four other dogs died in the fire.
Eight residents are displaced and receiving assistance from the Red Cross, the fire department said. One firefighter was treated for a minor sprain on the scene.
The fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the blaze, but investigators believe it is possibly from a propane tank that caught fire. Ogden fire estimates the fire caused about $400,000 in damage.
