HIGHLAND — Timpview secured its first win of the season in a nail biting game over Lone Peak Friday night in a 31-28 victory.

The two teams displayed an even matchup in a close game the entire night. The Knights fought until the very end, but their efforts fell short as time ran out with the Thunderbirds up by 3 points.

The fate of the game was sealed at the beginning of the fourth quarter on a 31-yard field goal by Timpview kicker Luke Thornock, in addition to some strong moments by the Thunderbirds' defensive line to keep Lone Peak from making a comeback.

Timpview's offense had a slow and rocky start with two interceptions — one of which led to the first touchdown of the night for the Knights. But the Thunderbirds turned the negative results around quickly and their defense got multiple stops that resulted in turnovers.

The second quarter brought some doubt for the Timpview fans in attendance as Lone Peak ran away with the score by seizing two touchdowns within 13 seconds of each other. But the double-digit lead didn't frighten the Thunderbirds, and they pushed along to score two touchdowns of their own.

Both teams showed grit and endurance on both sides of the ball during the second and third quarters to keep the game as close as possible.

A pivotal moment for the Thunderbirds came during the third quarter when the offense decided to go for it fourth-and-8. This decision was not only successful, but it tied up the game 28-28 and gave the team an opportunity to win the game on the field goal in the fourth quarter.

Timpview will face rival Provo next week, and Lone Peak will have a tough battle ahead of them as they take on Corner Canyon in Draper.
