TREMONTON — A man at the top of Box Elder County's Most Wanted list is in custody following a police pursuit Friday.

First District Judge Brandon Maynard had three warrants out for the arrest of Jonathan Randall Hurley, 21, related to multiple felony charges.

Tremonton-Garland Police Chief Dustin Cordova said police on Friday located and chased a vehicle driven by Hurley along I-15 from Brigham City to Tremonton before he was taken into custody.

During the 10-15 minute chase, Utah Highway Patrol troopers successfully flattened two of the car's tires, but Hurley continued to drive, Cordova said. The car got off the freeway at Tremonton and headed toward Main Street, still going about 80 mph, Cordova said.

Police followed the vehicle around the back of an apartment complex at 245 N. 400 West. Cordova said Hurley jumped out of the still-moving car, which hit a parked car. Police then chased him on foot for what Cordova estimated to be around 5 minutes as he hopped over a fence into the apartment complex, where police caught him.

Hurley was believed to be armed during the pursuit, Cordova said.

"We got a very dangerous person that had no regard for the public safety aspect of our communities in custody. And I think now that he's in jail, we're going to be in a safer community," Cordova said.

Three warrants for Hurley's arrest were issued on June 28 after he failed to appear in court for three separate cases.

Court records show Hurley entered into a plea of abeyance on June 21 for burglary and theft/receiving a firearm or operable motor vehicle, both second-degree felonies; and two counts of possession or use of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony and a class A misdemeanor; and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.

Hurley also pleaded guilty on March 20 to burglary of a vehicle, a class A misdemeanor. He also had past charges relating to possession or use of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, both class B misdemeanors, and attempted forgery, reduced to a class A misdemeanor.

Hurley is in the custody of the Box Elder County Jail and will face additional charges related to the pursuit, Cordova said.
