OGDEN — An Ogden man is facing federal charges related to the fentanyl overdose death of a person earlier this year.
Spencer Massengale, 31, has been accused of possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute, resulting in death, in the case of USA v. Massengale, filed June 28.
According to court documents, Massengale's roommate found the victim unresponsive on the couch at Massengale's home in February. Later, when Massengale returned home, neither he nor his roommate called 911 until Massengale had hidden his fentanyl, police said.
After getting a search warrant, police found approximately 330 fentanyl pills in Massengale's home, court documents say. Police also said they found evidence on Massengale's phone that the victim had also suffered a near-fatal overdose just a week before his or her death, according to a statement from the United States Attorney's Office.
Massengale is set to appear in a status conference before Magistrate Judge Daphne Oberg on Aug. 22.
