CLINTON — A Clinton councilwoman who died Tuesday will be remembered for her longstanding efforts to improve her community.

Barbara Patterson, 73, began her City Council term in January 2007. She served as chairwoman of the Parks Advisory Board, the city's liaison to the Clinton Fire Department and coordinator of the Heritage Days Parade.

The city government announced her death in a Facebook post, saying she will be missed for "her sense of responsibility, her desire to help and her frank honesty of opinion."

"Barbara loved Clinton City and the people and employees that have made the city such a good community," the post said. "She always endeavored to find ways to make improvements in the community that would assist and support the majority of local citizens."

Patterson's daughters, Misty Slocum and Kristen Patterson-Bliss, said their mother fought for employee benefits for city workers, was active in Clinton public works and pushed for a columbarium to be installed in the local cemetery.

She also volunteered on the Friend's Board for the Davis County Children's Justice Center and worked for the Clinton Recreation Department.

Born Jan. 12, 1950, Patterson was raised in Davis County. She lived in Clinton for 45 years.

Her daughters called her a "straight shooter" who was clear and determined about what she wanted to happen in council meetings and in the community.

Active until the end, Patterson didn't like to sit, and she golfed up until two weeks before her death. She also served on the board of directors for the Ogden Women's Bowling Association, and she was inducted into the Ogden Bowling Hall of Fame in February 2014.

Patterson worked as a beautician for more than 50 years, owning and operating the Magic Fingers Style Salon in Sunset, from which she retired two years ago. She also ran the Clinton Ditch Company for more than 15 years.

"We extend our deepest condolences to Barbara's family for their loss and to all others who had the opportunity to know Barbara," Clinton officials said in their Facebook post.
