SANDY — A 10-month-old baby was hospitalized Friday after nearly drowning in a bathtub.
Sandy police received report of a possible drowning in a bathtub near 11700 S. Brisbane Drive around 11:30 a.m. The father of the infant started CPR while on the phone with a dispatcher, then first responders took over the CPR once they arrived.
Police said the infant was taken to a local hospital, then to Primary Children's Hospital. Around 1 p.m., police said the infant was reported to be stable, breathing on its own and responding to pain.
The father told officers the infant was in a bathing seat sitting in the bathtub when he stepped out of the room for about a minute because he heard noises from his other children in the home. When he returned, he saw the infant had somehow slipped out of the seat and wasn't breathing so he called 911, police said.
Investigators said there aren't any signs of abuse or neglect and believe it was just an accident.
