TOOELE — The family of a young woman severely injured from being ejected from a vehicle a week ago is apparently preparing to take her off of life support.

On April 12, four of five people were ejected from a vehicle that rolled multiple times while heading east on I-80 in Tooele County, including 19-year-old Khaiyla Comer.

"It is with a very very heavy heart that I say that our Khaiyla is gaining her beautiful angel wings. We do not know exactly when that decision will be made, but Khaiyla's brain has struggled too much, and has too much damage," a post on the Prayers for Khaiyla Facebook page stated Tuesday.

"You will be so missed! You walk in the room and you shine! You have always been there for me in all my life situations. You have the most amazing, loving, caring heart. You will never be forgotten!!" the post continues.

About 11:30 a.m. on April 12, a vehicle with two men and three women, all between the ages of 18 and 20 said to be close friends, was traveling east on I-80 near Delle when the vehicle hit the rumble strips in the left lane, swerved to the right, and then overcorrected back to the left, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The vehicle rolled down the embankment in the median. Four people who were not wearing seat belts were ejected.

Reports that the driver had allegedly swerved to miss an animal on the road had not been verified by the UHP as of Tuesday.

A GoFundMe campaign* was also started to help the family with medical bills. Even before Tuesday's announcement, family members noted that Comer had severe head and brain trauma and that if she did wake up, "she will not live a normal life," the GoFundMe page states.

According to the Facebook page, as of Sunday, three of the five people who were in the car when it crashed have since been released from the hospital.

"Those kids will make a full recovery although it is gonna be tough and hard and long but eventually they will get there," the page says.

Another man is "awake," according to the page, but has undergone "extensive surgery."
