FRUIT HEIGHTS — A mudslide trapped a man and a woman in their backyard and swept away a large shed Saturday in Fruit Heights.

One person was hospitalized with injuries suffered during the mudslide and a second person was also injured, according to the Kaysville Fire Department. None of the injuries were considered to be life-threatening.

The mudslide occurred in the area of 100 S. Mountain Road on the east side in Mountain Road. It was triggered by the amount of water coming down from the melting snow on the mountainside.

"Several residents were entrapped in the slide. They were rescued by responding law enforcement and bystanders," the department said in a Facebook post.

Paramedics transported one person to a trauma center with "moderate injuries." A second person was treated at the scene and then released, firefighters said.

"In the back of a resident's property about 5:20 this afternoon, we had two residents that were back there (who) got caught in the mudslide. They yelled for help and some neighbors came over and dug them out," the Fruit Heights Mayor John Pohlman. "They just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time."

The home of the residents was not damaged, but a "pretty significant shed" was swept away in the slide, he said.

Firefighters referred to the building as a barn. "No homes are impacted at this time but the slide is still active," the department said in the post Saturday evening.

Public safety and city officials planned to remain at the scene of the mudslide to monitor it. Crews from Kaysville, Farmington, the Davis County Sheriff's Office and Fruit Heights all joined together to help at the scene.
