SALT LAKE CITY — Kailey Woolston's high school career ended with a bang on Saturday morning.

The BYU signee and two-time 6A state champion scored a game-high 28 points on 5-of-9 3-point shooting en route to tournament MVP honors, but Lone Peak couldn't overcome an early deficit and fell to top-seeded Sidwell Friends 50-46 in the championship game of the State Champions Invitational at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Sarah Bartholomew added 7 points and eight rebounds for Lone Peak (24-4), which won its second-straight 6A state championship last month.

Kendall Dudley, the five-star junior who just committed to UCLA, had 21 points and three steals to lead Sidwell (30-3).

The Quakers jumped out to a 20-8 first-quarter advantage and led by as much as 14 in the second before Lone Peak used a 13-2 run through the third to pull within 33-30.

Woolston, who was also named to the all-tournament team, dropped a 3-pointer to pull the Knights within 43-4 with just under two minutes remaining, and Shawnee Nordstrom — who had 5 points and five assists — cut Lone Peak's deficit to two with a deep 3-pointer with 16.7 seconds left.

But the Knights could get no closer as Sidwell made 12-of-19 free throws to close out the win.

Woolston averaged 20.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game while leading Lone Peak to consecutive 6A titles as a senior. The 4.0 GPA student and accomplished concert pianist was named Gatorade Utah player of the year following the season while also earning MaxPreps All-America honors and Ms. Basketball by the Deseret News.

She was the first player to sign with new BYU basketball coach Amber Whiting when the latter took over the program last year, and joins a highly touted recruiting class that also includes a top-50 guard nationally in Amari Whiting and two-time Gatorade Nevada player of the year Ali'a Matavao from the Las Vegas area.
