SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating a serious crash on the 700 North offramp from I-215.

About 1:30 p.m., a vehicle going northbound on I-215 passed a Utah Highway Patrol trooper at a high speed. The trooper pulled into traffic to catch up with the vehicle and saw the car exit on the 700 North offramp, where the trooper saw the car crash into another vehicle.

Troopers said both drivers were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The Utah Highway Patrol said both the on- and offramp as well as 700 North in that area were closed as police investigated.

Salt Lake police are handling the crash investigation to determine further details.
