PROVIDENCE, Cache County — Police have identified a man killed Monday when a garage roof collapsed, pinning and killing him inside.

Cache County Sheriff's Office and Logan Fire Department got called to the construction accident about 2:45 p.m. at 198 E. 200 South in Providence in Cache County.

The home was undergoing a major renovation, and a contractor was removing asbestos from the garage when the roof collapsed, police said. The 52-year-old worker, Rolando Castellanos-Briseno, was caught in the collapse and died at the scene.

Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Doyle Peck said a combination of heavy snow on the house's roof and the construction work being done contributed to the roof collapsing. He estimates there was about 15 inches of snow on the roof from recent snowfall.

The rest of the work crew members were uninjured in the incident.

Authorities say they are attempting to locate family members of Castellanos-Briseno. His last known residence was Ogden, but police believe his family resides out of state, or even out of the country.

A GoFundMe* page has been set up to help cover the costs of Castellanos-Briseno's funeral, among other costs, according to the organizer, who wrote that "family and friends were heartbroken by his sudden loss." The page also mentions Castellanos-Briseno leaves behind a wife.
