VERNAL — A car slid into oncoming traffic, colliding with another vehicle and killing one person Monday morning, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
A 19-year-old male was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue west on U.S. Highway 40 outside of Vernal at 7:11 a.m. The roads were slick from snow and ice and the Nissan slid out of control into oncoming traffic, according to a UHP news release.
Troopers said the Nissan collided with a 2018 Jeep Cherokee that had two 17-year-old occupants.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and later died. The two people in the Jeep were also transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The identity of the man who died had not been released by troopers as of Monday afternoon.
UHP officials said both directions of traffic were shut down for about 10 minutes, then one lane was opened for alternating traffic through the scene while troopers investigated.
