OGDEN — Two men were arrested in connection with the Tuesday shooting of an Ogden man that resulted in his death.

Ogden police said officers were dispatched to 1200 Harrison Boulevard, in Ogden, Tuesday evening, on reports of shots fired from one vehicle to another.

Upon arrival, police said they found Ogden resident Juan Garcia, 24, injured, with multiple gunshot wounds. Garcia was taken to the hospital but died of his injuries.

Garcia's vehicle had nine bullet holes, a police booking affidavit said. Police said witnesses took pictures of the suspect vehicle as it left the scene and said the shooter was in the rear passenger seat of the vehicle.

Investigators identified the vehicle and its registered owner, police said, and responded to the registered address where they found the suspect vehicle.

A search warrant was issued and police said they found and arrested Mauro Soto, 21, and Anthony Barela, 30.

The suspect vehicle was searched and bullet casings that matched evidence on scene were found, according to the affidavit. Witness interviews identified Soto as the shooter and Barela as the driver, the affidavit said.

The firearm was not found in the vehicle, but investigators determined the route the vehicle took after the shooting and found a gun matching the description that was hidden at one of the places the vehicle stopped.

On Friday, Soto was booked into Weber County Jail for the investigation of aggravated murder, felony obstruction of justice, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, and nine counts of discharge of a firearm in the direction of a person.

Soto has two violent prior felony convictions and is currently on probation for an aggravated assault case, the affidavit said. At the time of the incident, Soto also had an arrest warrant issued for failure to comply with his probation, the affidavit said.

Barela was arrested for investigation of felony obstruction of justice.

Police are still asking anyone with information about Tuesday's shooting to contact the Ogden Police Department Investigation Bureau at 801-629-8228.
