ST. GEORGE — Southern Utahns will soon have a new burger and ice cream joint to patronize.

Wayback Burgers — one of the nation's fastest-growing burger franchises — in November announced a lease signing for a new restaurant in St. George, making it the franchise's first Utah location.

"We are pleased to bring the Wayback Burgers brand to Utah with the lease signing of our St. George location," said Patrick Conlin, president of Wayback Burgers, in a statement. "It is an exciting time to be a part of the Wayback Burgers family."

Wayback Burgers offers a variety of cooked-to-order burgers available as a single patty or classic double patties, as well as its hand-dipped milkshakes.

"Going "way" beyond the burger, Wayback Burgers also offers cheesesteaks, crispy and grilled chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers, Impossible burgers, chicken tenders, fresh salads, and delicious sides, including fries, tater tots, onion rings and mac and cheese bites," the restaurant said in a news release.

The St. George location, at 2134 E. Riverside Drive, will be owned and operated by local franchisee Arturo Ramirez. Ramirez said that while looking for franchises, he chose Wayback Burgers because of its mission.

"They came to unite people through the comfort of food in the old-fashioned way. That's what I like the most from them," Ramirez said.

He said customers visiting Wayback Burgers can expect to feel valued and enjoy fresh, cooked-to-order food at a good price. For employees, he said Wayback Burgers will be a workplace where they will feel valued and supported.

The new location is projected to add 30 new jobs to the St. George economy and is expected to open in spring 2023.

"We look forward to working with Arturo and are excited to introduce the Wayback Burgers we know and love to new guests and communities throughout Utah," Conlin said in the statement.

With a modernized kitchen visible through glass windows and a pass-through, Wayback Burgers' new design allows guests to see their food as it is prepared.

Additionally, Ramirez believes that Wayback Burgers has the potential to expand throughout the entire Beehive State.

"I believe when companies have a really nice mission, everything comes along; and that's how I think we will be able to grow in the whole state," Ramirez said. "We can always be striving for how to add more value to (the) community, how to add more value to the employees, how to add more benefits to everyone. The goal is to have a better future."

Wayback Burgers currently operates in 35 states with over 170 locations nationally and internationally in Brunei, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, the Netherlands and Manitoba, Canada, Ireland and Japan.
