SALT LAKE CITY — Utah-based Intermountain Farmers Association announced Monday that its leader for the past 12 years is retiring, and the company has selected his replacement.
"I am grateful to IFA for a lifetime of memories and meaningful relationships," said Layne Anderson, IFA president and CEO, in a news release.
He worked at the organization for 40 years and is now "looking forward to spending more time with my family."
Matthew S. Swan will take over as president and CEO.
"Matt will be terrific in his new role, and I expect the transition to be seamless and beneficial for everyone involved," Anderson said.
A native of Box Elder County, Swan grew up with an agricultural background, assisting his father in sheep and cattle operations while also being involved in rodeo, football and Future Farmers of America, according to the company. He attended Utah State University and graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture economics.
"This is a very humbling and exciting opportunity," Swan said in the release. "In our industry, IFA is a regional leader in quality services and products. I look forward to continuing our pursuit of preeminence throughout the Intermountain West."
Swan has worked for IFA for the last 18 years as a region manager, leading the Agronomy and Feed and Animal Health divisions and the general operations department. Company leaders said Swan has been integral to the cooperative's "remarkable growth" due to his experience in management, sales and marketing.
In 2023, IFA will celebrate 100 years since its founding in Gunnison. It supplies farm products across the Intermountain West.
