WEST VALLEY CITY — A man was hospitalized in critical condition after being hit by a pickup truck Tuesday night, police said.

About 8:42 p.m., a man was crossing Redwood Road in the area of 3100 South about three-quarters of a block south from the intersection. The man was crossing the road from west to east when he was hit by a northbound pickup truck, West Valley police said.

The truck dragged him a few feet and then drove away, police said.

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition with a head injury and went into surgery. Police estimated he is in his 40s, but they did not have other information about him late Tuesday.

Investigators say they hope to find the driver, but witnesses were not able to get a license plate number for the truck.
