SANDY — A man died and a woman was injured Friday in a shooting in Sandy, police said.

About 10:30 a.m., police received a report of shots fired at the 2000 block of Oak Manor Drive, said Sandy Police Lt. Dean Carriger.

The man, who was estimated to be about 40 years old, was pronounced dead on scene with a gunshot wound, Carriger said. The woman, estimated at 33 years old, was taken to Intermountain Medical Center with one gunshot wound, where she underwent surgery.

It appears the man's gunshot wound was self-inflicted, but his cause of death has yet to be determined by the state medical examiner, Carriger said.

Police are still working to determine the relationship between the man and woman.
