SPANISH FORK — Spanish Fork police are calling the death of a man whose body was found next to a dumpster "suspicious."

About 6:30 a.m. Friday, officers were called to the area of 1200 North and 400 East on a report of a body being discovered. Police located a deceased "middle-aged" man next to a dumpster, according to a prepared statement from the city. The man, who has not been identified, is believed to have been homeless, the city stated.

"The cause of death is currently unknown, however, circumstances are suspicious, and is being investigated as a homicide," according to the statement.

The city did not say Friday why the death is considered suspicious or who found the body. The victim was taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office to try and determine a cause and time of death.
