NORTH SALT LAKE — A motorcyclist died early Tuesday after crashing on the highway, troopers said.

About 12:55 a.m., a Yamaha motorcyle was merging onto northboun Interstate 15 from the U.S. 89 northbound on-ramp near the Salt Lake County and Davis County line when the driver lost control, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden said.

The man driving the motorcycle, 31, went off the road to the right and struck a concrete barrier. He then fell off the bike and slid into a middle lane, as the bike slid into the carpool lane, according to the UHP.

A car hit the man, pushing him into the carpool lane where a pickup truck struck the bike and the man. He was then hit by another car, troopers said.

The man was pronounced dead on scene. His name has not yet been released.

Speed is being investigated as a contributing factor.

No one else was injured in the series of crashes.

Northbound I-15 in the area was closed and traffic was diverted onto U.S. 89 four about four hours while police investigated.
