SALT LAKE CITY — Police arrested a man Wednesday after they say he fired shots from his vehicle at a home and later near businesses after being asked to leave a yoga studio.
About 8:30 a.m., police received reports of the man shooting from his vehicle in the Olympus Cove area of Holladay, Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler said.
The man who lives at the home knew the man who was firing shots, according to Cutler. The resident owns a yoga studio in Salt Lake City, where the man used to be a member.
"What we know, at this point, is that our suspect was once a member of this yoga studio, became aggressive with some of the members and employees, and he was asked to no longer come back, and that's when all this unfolded today," Cutler said.
The man drove to a Chevron station, 4013 S. Wasatch Blvd., and then to Macey's, 4530 S. Highland Drive, where he again fired shots into the air, according to the sergeant.
He then went to the yoga studio, Kirtan Center at 745 S. 700 East. People inside the yoga studio at the time called the owner and told him that the former member was there, according to Cutler.
The yoga studio is described on its website as a religious institution.
Cutler said the man went into the studio and got into a fight with an employee. The employee was later treated for minor injuries.
Police found the man inside his vehicle parked outside the yoga studio and arrested him.
Cutler said she did not know if he was demanding anything at the yoga studio. Police were not aware of any gunshot victims related to the incident.
Investigators plan to conduct a search warrant at the man's home. His name has not yet been released.
