WEST WENDOVER, Nevada — Troopers in Nevada on Thursday identified a person killed last week in a crash as a man from Sandy.
A Suzuki Vitara utility vehicle was driving north on U.S. 93 on June 14 when it crossed over the center line into the southbound lane and drove off the roadway to the left, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
"The driver overcorrected causing the vehicle to rotate. The vehicle struck a paddle marker, continued back across the roadway, and came to rest on its side on the right side of the roadway," troopers said.
The crash happened about seven miles south of West Wendover.
The driver, Gennady Sarkisov, 45, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. An adult passenger in the vehicle was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
"Both occupants of the vehicle were unrestrained, and impairment is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash," the Nevada Highway Patrol said in a statement.
Correction: A previous version incorrectly identified the person who died as a woman.
