WEST VALLEY CITY — Two boys were arrested by West Valley police Monday and accused of shooting at a couple in the parking lot of the Valley Fair Mall.

About 6:30 p.m., a man and woman shopping at the mall, 3601 S Constitution Blvd., got into an argument with two boys, ages 16 and 17.

"This exchange turned into a physical altercation between the woman and the 17-year-old male," West Valley police said in a statement.

After the two sides separated, the man and woman went to the car. But as they were getting ready to drive off, they saw the 17-year-old boy "reaching for a gun in his pants," according to police. The man then accelerated his car at the boy and bumped the teen. The 16-year-old boy responded by shooting the car twice as it drove away. No injuries were reported.

Officers quickly responded to the area and located both boys who were booked into juvenile detention for investigation of aggravated assault, obstruction of justice and evidence tampering.
