WEST VALLEY CITY — One man is dead and another is in stable condition after a shooting near 2935 S. Whistling Lane on Saturday morning.

Police responded to reports of several shots fired near an apartment building at 3:10 a.m. Saturday and discovered two men with gunshot wounds. The scene was chaotic with a large group of witnesses present, said West Valley Police Lt. Steve Beardshall.

Police began medical aid to the two men until West Valley City Fire personnel arrived. The two men were taken to the hospital in critical condition where one of the men later succumbed to his injuries, said Beardshall.

The other man is currently being treated.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses to determine what happened.

"Right now, we haven't identified any specific suspects but we believe that might change after we complete all our interviews," said Beardshall.

The identities of the man who was killed and the man who was injured were not released.
