SALT LAKE CITY — Police have arrested a man in connection with the fatal stabbing near 1650 S. State on Saturday.
Detectives arrested Kevin Tommy Neal, 36, and booked him into Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of murder and obstruction of justice
At about 9:25 p.m., police responded to reports of a stabbing and located a man in critical condition with stab wounds to his neck and torso. The man, identified as 34-year-old Trevor Bellaccomo, was transported to Intermountain Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, according to a police booking affidavit.
Salt Lake police homicide detectives and crime lab technicians responded to the scene where they interviewed multiple witnesses and reviewed surveillance video. Police said they learned that Neal attacked Bellaccomo almost immediately after he arrived at the "entertainment venue" at 1626 S. State.
Following the attack, Bellaccomo walked to a nearby Arby's restaurant, where he lost consciousness in the parking lot, the affidavit says.
One witness told police that after walking around the corner where the stabbing occurred, they saw "Kevin" covered in blood and heard the man say "he had just stabbed someone and everybody needed to leave," according to the affidavit.
A second witness reported hearing a man at the entrance of the venue say, "I just stabbed someone, I need to get out of here," the affidavit states.
Investigators recovered a knife with suspected blood in a garbage can in the area, the arrest report says, and also located a white shirt that appeared bloodstained. Detectives arrested Neal at his home and also served a search warrant there and reported finding a pair of pants, a hooded sweatshirt, socks and underwear in the dryer.
Police say another witness told them that Neal is the promoter for the venue and coordinates the bands that play there.
This is the fourth homicide in Salt Lake City for 2022.
