MURRAY — A man died Saturday after being hit by a FrontRunner train in Murray, police said.
Eryx Lynch, 20, was out on his electric bicycle delivering pizza when he came to an overpass on 4500 South where there is a train crossing, according to Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky. The safety equipment was properly functioning, but the man went inside the gates and waited while a Union Pacific train passed. However, shortly after that train passed, Lynch entered the crossing and was hit by a FrontRunner train heading in the opposite direction.
Lynch died from his injuries.
"This is why the lights stay on and the gate stays down. Just because one train passes and clears the intersection, it doesn't mean that there isn't another train coming from the opposite direction," Arky said.
"Please wait until the gates go up, the lights go off and the bells stop ringing," Arky said.
Northbound FrontRunner riders saw delays through the night.
